Our hospital administrators have asked us to investigate charging part B pro fees on Helper/Suppressor, CD3, CD4 and CD34 tests. We would appreciate input on how any of you are handling this charge situation. We are a busy transplant center and handle approximately 700 cases a month. Currently we have several good results validation procedures and issue canned comments to the clinicians as appropriate. Our CD34 test is straight forward as we report only total CD34 and no subsets. In rare unusual cases the pathologist will issue a comment. None of these tests are currently receiving part B charges. Are any of you charging pro fees for these tests? If so, by antibody or by panel or how? How much do you document the pathologist's involvement, i.e. review of individual results, histograms of by batch worksheets? Are your pathologists integrating clinical data in their interpretations? Any information will be useful as we meet to discuss this next week. Please return replies to me through our mailing list connection or contact me through the email address or phone number below. Thanks to all.
