Where to get flow cytometer components?

Hi all,
Can anyone point me to a good source for flow cytometer components?

Those who have "home brew" flow systems:
Where did you get your components?
Did you build from scratch, or start with a stripped down commercial
machine?
We are most interested in obtaining the fluidics, optics, pmt's, etc. but
information on any part of the machine is of interest.

We are developing electronic modules for flow cytometry and sorting (see
our web page if you are interested) and need to assemble a sorter for
developmental testing. Since we expect our products and services to
initially be of most interest to those with home-built, high performance
sorters we would prefer to go that approach over purchasing a commercial
unit. This approach will also allow us to easily re-configure often.

We are only planning to use this system for electronics/component
development (amplifiers, fluidics controls, sort control hardware and
interfaces, etc.) and therefore, do not even initially care to add data
acquisition at this time. Our more sophisticated modules, like our 3-Color
Compensation System, are rigorously beta tested for performance and
usability in real laboratories, so we do not need to run any "real"
applications on our bench.

Any advice or suggestions from those who have gone down this road would be
greatly appreciated. We would also like to do this as inexpensively as
possible, so if there are any sources of used components, we are very
interested in that information. Thanks in advance for useful pointers.
