The CD38 positive, dim CD45 positive cells are probably stem cells that have differentiated slightly. It is my understanding that the CD34 positive stem cells are CD38 negative at first and then become CD38+ as they start to differentiate. They are CD45 dim at both stages. Perhaps some of the stem cell gurus can add information about which cell line they are differentiating along. I would assume that most are myeloid, not lymphoid, but I may be wrong.
