Biological Sciences 1978; Ph.D. Microbiology 1985. Scientific training & experience:- Research, application, development & tuition of Flow Cytometry (FACStar Plus, FACSort, FACScan, Ortho Cytofluorograph 50-H, Epics Elite, etc.) with on-line computer (H-P. 340/310, Ortho 2151, PC, Mac. etc.) data acquisition, presentation, off-line transfer, analysis (Lysis-II, CellFit, Consort 30, WinList, WinMDI, ModFit, MacCycle, etc.) & archiving (tape, M/O disk, etc.); Bulk cell sterile flow-sorting & single cell flow-cloning (ACDU); Many & varied techniques, especially immunophenotyping (surface & cytoplasmic), DNA study (cell-cycle, aopotosis, ploidy, etc.), et. al. & assorted combinations; Establishment, supervision, management & operation of sophisticated Flow Cytometry Core Facilities, including consultation, liasion, scheduling, budgeting & accounting, with direct involvement in many diverse research & clinical projects; Confocal Laser Scanning Fluorescence Microscopy (Bio-Rad MRC 1024, DVC 250, etc.) & 3-D imaging; Field-testing of novel reagents & prototype instrument systems; Computing (software & hardware, mainframe & micro-computers: DOS/Windows & Mac.); Networking (FACSnet, WHPPC, Pegasus, Banyan Vines, Pine, InterNet, W.W.W., H.T.M.L., etc.); Microbiological & aseptic techniques, including continuous chemostat culture & fermentation (design, instrumentation & operation, etc.); Biochemical analyses; Lecturing to undergraduate & medical students; Setting, marking & grading term quizzes, final examinations & practical class reports; Demonstrations for U.K. school A-level biology teachers' refresher courses, undergraduate practical classes & student tutorials; Help & supervision of instrument users, project students & technicians; Scientific presentations at international congresses, plus other symposia, seminars & meetings; Production & co-ordination (including gathering of material, preparation of sections, writing H.T.M.L. code, etc.) for CD-ROMs designed to disseminate information & data to the Cytometry community; Etc., etc., etc...
