I understand 16S ribosomal subunit rRNA nucleotide sequences are highly conserved among all creatures, great (eukaryotes) or small (prokaryotes). I am planning cytotoxicity studies for quantitating the effect of ribonucleases (added to the growth medium) on mammalian cells. Is there any available, quick, cheap and/or facile means of determining specific cleavage of breaks in the 16S rRNA? SHELTON E.
