Data File Standards and Related Issues As a follow-up to the discussion about the strengths and weaknesses of the Data File Standard for Flow Cytometry, Version FCS3.0, there has been a section of the ISAC Web Page devoted to this topic for almost a year. In addition to a hypertext version of the complete FCS3.0 specification, you can find the names, addresses, and phone numbers of all the members of the ISAC Data File Standards Committee. This committee is charged with formulating the standard, and is interested in receiving comments from those it serves. There is also an on-line forum discussing various aspects of FCS3.0 that was started by Larry Seamer, the Committee Chair, when the file specification was released last year. With the permission of those who have recently submitted extended comments to the Cytometry Mailing List, I have copied that discussion to the forum to provide a complete listing of current commentary. Guenter Valet has started a follow-up forum that is also liked to the same page. The ISAC Web Page also has many links to other sites throughout the world that deal with data file standards and their implementation in science and medicine. Extended alternative opinions that have been submitted by ISAC members are published there as well. Your on-going remarks on the topic are solicited. In addition to formatted text, you may also submit figures and other illustrations to accompany your text comments. If you wish to submit figures, please send email to me for details.
