CD14 is a late maturation marker, so in your system you are probably seeing
a lot of immature monocytes that are CD14-. Additionally, in periipheral
blood there can be up to 10% monocytes either CD14 negative or low.

CD11c is the best monocyte marker. Although PMN and some lympphocytes
express low levels of CD11c, bright expression is limited to monocytes, and
is expressed fairly early. Either BD or Pharmingen's PE conjugate are
good, and Sigma makes a Cy5PE conjugate that is also pretty good.
