Hello to all! For some time now there have been intermittent posts by folks in search of a logging software for the Mac. Something that mimics the Neal Benson HP program (FACSLog) would be nice. We have found something that works well, suits our needs perfectly and is inexpensive. It is written by a man named Klaus Berkling, and is called MacLogin. There are three versions: MacLogin for Password, MacLogin for TC/PIP, and MacLogin for Appletalk. We use the Password version. You must create a user database which includes a login ID and password for each individual. MacLogin writes to a log file that you create, and includes fields for user, group (similar to 'group' in Neal Benson's program),location (this would be the name of the Mac being used, obtained from the Sharing setup), date in, time in, date out, and time out. For Core Facility Managers this software is a necessity. The log file can then be imported into your favorite database (we use FileMaker Pro by Claris), and a billing statement can be easily created. Check out the MacLogin webpage at: http://dingbatms.starnine.com/maclogin/about-maclogin.html Please note that this software is not meant for security with respect to locking folders/documents/drives etc. It can only track machine usage, which is exactly what we need. Bye and good luck! -Bob K. -- ************************** Robert E. Karaffa, II Emory University Flow Cytometry Core Facility 1365 B Clifton Rd.
