I have actually used the Time Zero module in kinetic studies on an Elite. It consists of a water jacketed cell holding the sample tube with an induction type magnetic stirrer, control box, lines connecting into the Elite air pressure lines, and BNC cables to connect into the PMT signal lines. In my experience, a treatment can be delivered to the sample tube, mixed, and delivered to the flow cell in 2-3 seconds. I was able to perform a number of experiments looking at cell volume regulation in a lymphoid cell line using this component (see Weaver et al, Am J Physiol 270: (Cell Physiol 39): C1453-C1460, 1996). If the events are happening in the 5-20 second time frame, this unit will enable you to observe the cellular response to the treatment. The unit was generally trouble free although I had to recut the air lines occasionally at the T-connectors to remove slow air pressure leaks. If you really need to work in this time frame, this unit will work although it will take a little time to get it installed and get used to it. I found the company (all 2 people) very helpful and cooperative. Feel free to email if you need more information. -Jim Weaver ****************************************************** * * * James L.
