IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED QUALIFIED YOU MUST HAVE: Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences or related field and one (1) year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions. Knowledge of scientific approach and methodologies. PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WHO HAVE: 1) Signal transduction/cell adhesion science knowledge; 2) Immunoflorescence/flow cytometry experience; 3) Spectroscopy experience; 4) MIcroscopy experience; 5) Antibody familiarity; 6) Cell labeling/ion indicator familiarity; 7) Computer graphics program experience; 8) Master's degree in science or related field; 9) PhD preferred; 10) Experience of >3 years; 11) Independent work ability; 12) Publications record; 13) Demonstrated written communication skills; 14) Oral Presentation skills; 15) Training skills; 16) Supervisory experience. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Evaluates, selects, and applies standard scientific techniques, procedures, and criteria to accomplish a variety of research assignments. Performs research assignments involving a number of variables and applies or uses scientific procedures, laboratory equipment, and computer technology which may involve complex functions or features. Makes preliminary selections and adaptations of scientific alternatives requiring the exercise of judgment. Receives and carries out instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions. Collects, analyzes, and interprets data; prepares statistical and narrative reports and/or graphs. Serves as principal investigator, as appropriate, on sub-projects of complexities consistent with above criteria. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes workplace safety. Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems. Designs, performs, and/or oversees experiments and data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance. May lead and guide staff and/or students engaged in associated research support activities. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Work environment involves some exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment, working with chemicals, or potential physical abuse, that require following basic safety precautions. May be exposed to blood and/or blood borne pathogens and, therefore required to take annual training provided by UNM for prevention and infection control. May be required to submit to annual TB and Rubella screening. UNM may provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
