Deutsche Gesellschaft für Zytometrie (DGfZ)

History

  • DGfZ
  • The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Zytometrie was founded in Heidelberg in 1989 as an association of basic research, clinical and industrial scientists interested in the promotion of the flow and image cytometric field. Its original name Gesellschaft für Zytometrie (GZ) was changed into Deutsche Gesellschaft für Zytometrie (DGfZ) by membership vote in 1994

    The Foundation Council consisted of:

    C.Cornelisse (Leiden)
    G.Feichter (Basel)
    W.Göhde (Münster)
    K.Goerttler (Heidelberg)
    H.Hoehn (Würzburg)
    A.Radbruch (Köln)
    P.Schwarzmann (Stuttgart)
    G.Valet (München)

Annual meetings in the name of the DGfZ have been regularly organized in the communication center of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) since 1990 initially by Prof.K.Goerttler and later by Drs.Hutter and Stöhr.

The abstracts are published since 1993 in the journal: Analytical Cellular Pathology (ACP) of the Europ.Soc.Anal.Cell.Pathology (ESACP) and since 1995 in the form of Proceedings with a registered international book number (see abstracts 1994/95/96).

Several newsletters per year inform the membership on new developments in cytometry.

The DGfZ entertained since Sep.1994 a Gopher information system server on the Internet: cytogerm.biochem.mpg.de. This node was transferred into the www-net in Feb.1996. Information on the DGfZ and its activities can be retrieved from:

This information can also be accessed via the CytoRelay node:

Basic research oriented flow cytometry courses have taken place in Martinsried in 1991 and 1993 as well as six clinically oriented courses in cooperation with the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Klinische Zytometrie by Prof.Dr.G.Schmitz (Clinical Chemistry) in Regensburg since 1991. DGfZ cytometry courses were organized in 1995/96 by Drs.Nüsse and Beisker of the GSF, Munich, in 1997 by PD Dr.R.Knüchel and Dr.G.Rothe, Pathology and Clinical Chemistry Institutes, Regensburg and in 1998 by Prof.A.Radbruch in Berlin.

Workshops and flow cytometry courses are organized since 1992 by Prof.Dr.R.Bauer (Dermatology) in Bonn and contacts exist with the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Mophologische Zytometrie of Prof.Dr.A.Böcking (Pathology) in Düsseldorf.

The DGfZ distributes stipends for young scientists to favour their participation at international meetings.
