Tech Tips

Q: How can I release vacuum in my L8/L8M Ultracentrifuge when power has been lost?
L8/L8M Vacuum Release
The procedure for releasing vacuum in the event of a power fault internal or external to the instrument.

SHUT OFF THE MAIN POWER FIRST!
UNPLUG THE POWER CABLE BEFORE PROCEEDING ANY FURTHER!
This is what you will see when you remove the front panel. To release the vacuum you must turn the screw clockwise until you hear the vacuum release. Once the chamber pressure has reached atmosphere you must depress the door interlock solenoid with your right hand and push the door handle with your left hand.

Q: How can I open the door on my J Series Centrifuge when power has been lost?

You will need a small Allen wrench or similar tool to insert through the access hole at the right side of the instrument. With the interlock depressed manually release the door latch and open the door. Make sure the rotor has stopped before attempting to open the door!

  1. Simple methods for preparing sucrose or cesium chloride gradients
  2. Light weight carbon fiber rotors for use in highspeed and ultra applications
