Introduction:
CD31 antigen (PECAM-1) is present on nearly all monocytes, platelets and granulocytes. CD31 expression changes on maturation of CD4+ T cells (1,2). CD31 is also strongly expressed on endothelial cells and has also been found in metastatic colon carcinoma. The antigen is localized at regions of cell-cell contacts and may function as an adhesion molecule, mediating adhesion between leukocytes and endothelial cells.
Application:
CD31, clone NaM28-2D1, antibodies are applied in flow cytometry and histochemistry for analysis of blood and bone marrow. This clone can be applied in ELISA, immunoblotting
CD31 interacts homotypicaly in cell adhesion assays. In addition, it interacts heterotypically with the integrin aVb3 and glycosaminoglycans. Alternative splicing gives rise to variants with different cytoplasmic regions and these give rise to specific binding characteristics
Specifications:
CD31, clone NaM28-2D1, is a mouse IgG1 monoclonal antibody which recognizes the platelet/endothelial adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1), a 130 to 140 kD single-chain integral membrane glycoprotein (1,2). Clone NaM28-2D1 was clustered as CD31 during the 5th Leucocyte typing workshop (3).
Performance Characteristics:
CD31, clone NaM28-2D1, was analysed by flow cytometry using a blood sample from a healthy human volunteer. Direct staining was performed using 10 ml of R-PE conjugated antibody and 100 ml blood sample.
