Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen (PCNA), formerly called cyclin, is a 36 kDa proliferation-associated antigen. It is an intracellular polypeptide antigen that is found in both normal and transformed cells. The level of PCNA synthesis correlates directly with rates of cellular proliferation and DNA synthesis during the cell cycle. Elevated levels of PCNA appear in the nucleus during late G1 phase immediately prior to the onset of DNA synthesis, become maximal during S phase and decline again during G2 and M phases. PCNA is identified as the auxiliary protein to DNA polymerase delta and is tightly associated with the sites of DNA replication. 5A10, 19F4 and 19A2 antibodies recognize human PCNA and are suitable for flow cytometry, immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry on cryostat or paraffin embedded tissue sections. 19F4 antibody was evaluated during the Fifth International Workshop on Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens.
