Nuclear protein p105 is a proliferation-associated antigen. It is an intracellular polypeptide antigen that distinguishes cycling from non-cycling cells. The level of p105 synthesis correlates directly with rates of cellular proliferation and DNA synthesis during the cell cycle. Relatively little p105 antigen is detected in G1 phase cells. Elevated levels of p105 appear as granules in the nucleus in early G1 phase and increase in Number until G2 phase. During mitosis, when the nuclear membrane dissolves, p105 expression is maximal and is seen diffusely in the mitotic cytoplasm. By immunoblot analysis, monoclonal antibodies to p105 bind two polypeptides of 105 and 41 kDa. This indicates that the antigen may occur in monomeric and dimeric forms or that the 41 kDa protein is a proteolytic fragment of the 105 kDa protein. 780-3-9 antibody was evaluated during the Fifth International Workshop on Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens.
