The CD71 antigen is known as the transferrin receptor. It is characterized as a disulfide-bound dimer of two identical glycoprotein subunits of 95 kDa each. It is expressed by activated T and B cells, by macrophages and by erythroblasts. It is absent from resting blood leukocytes. Its expression is upregulated on all cell types entering in proliferation. YDJ1.2.2 and T9 antibodies were evaluated during the Fifth International Workshop on Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens.
