The CD42a antigen (GPIX) is a single-chain membrane glycoprotein that forms a noncovalent complex with GPIb (CD42b). It has a molecular weight of 23 kDa. It is found on platelets and megakaryocytes. It is known as the receptor for von Willebrand's factor and as von Willebrand's factor-dependent adhesion receptor. The SZ1 monoclonal antibody reacts with the complex CD42a/CD42b but does not recognize gpIb or gpIX individually. SZ1 was evaluated during the Fifth International Workshop on Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens.
