CYTO-STATS

The CD38 antigen is a type II integral membrane glycoprotein, with the NH2-terminus inside the cytoplasm. Its molecular weight is about 45 kDa. It is expressed on activated T and B cells, monocytes, Natural Killer (NK) cells, plasma cells and medullary thymocytes. It is also present on terminally differentiated B cells, and early B cells. However, most mature resting peripheral lymphocytes of both B and T lineages, do not express CD38 antigen. Its tissue distribution appears to be dependent on the differentiation and activation of the cell. It is used as a marker to study T and B lymphocyte activation. T16 antibody was evaluated during the Third International Workshop on Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens.
