All three are great, and I would add "The big yellow book" (Melamed,
Lindmo and Mendelsohn), but only for those are looking for
encyclopedic coverage. For prospective users who need an introductory
text I always start them with Alice Givan's book--can't cite the title
cause I have it loaned out at the moment!
I must admit, I am embarassed by how frequently I don't know the
answer to a question and find it in Howard's book, which I read cover
to cover when I first started!
