SERVICE CONTRACTS -Reply

Despite the recent bashing of BD service, I have found them to be quite
good. As for service contracts for the lasers, it really depends on
whether you need 24 hour turn around time.
We hav the Spectra Physics HE-NE and have found it to be very reliable.
(read no service contract necessary). As for the instrument in general,
that is also the case. Our institution does not like to pay for service
contracts rather, they would pay for on site repair whenever it is
necessary. This logic has proven itself for our FACSTAR plus is now 6
years old and we have had only 4 PM visits (After the first year
warranty) and two service calls for equipment failure. Given the cost of
service contracts, we feel we have saved money.
