Dear Walter,

The case that you described (a child with an 11% population with a DNA index of
1.2) sounds remarkably similar to one that we reported in Cytometry (Communications
in Clinical Cytometry) 22:158, 1995.
Our conclusion in our case was that the child was demonstrating a false
DNA-aneuploidy (DI 1.2) due to an infection with EBV. Cytogenetic analysis was
normal and the EBV titer was 1:640 (capsid IgG) and 1:2 (nuclear antigen). We were
concerned that the EBV DNA within infected cells caused this increase in DNA
content.
