We also have noted problems of carryover with small (0.5 micron)
beads on an XL. They persist for many subsequent tubes when we
use the autoloader. I have found that following the bead tube
with 50% ethanol and then saline removes almost all of the
beads. This is a problem because it adds extra tubes, but
nothing else seems to work. The Coulter field technician was
completely surprised when I showed him this. Apparently their
usual tests are with larger beads (7-10 micron) and these do not
carryover. However, their definition of carryover is < 1.0 %.
