Expansion of our program has sent me looking for two for skilled, motivated
and patient (since they have to work with me) individuals to fill the
following two positions.

Position #1
Research Specialist in Life Sciences
(Flow Cytometry)
12 Month-100%

The Biotechnology Center at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Campus has an opening for a Research Specialist in Life Sciences in the Flow
Cytometry Facility to assist with the development of new applications and
technology. Responsibilities of the position include: operation and
maintenance of laser-based flow cytometry analyzers and cell sorters;
training of facility users; maintenance of quality control logs; reagent
preparation; and some sample preparation. The position will include
significant use of PC computer systems. Minimum qualifications are a
Bachelor's degree, with 2 years of experience operating flow cytometry
analyzers or other similar clinical/research laboratory instrumentation such
as blood counters or chemistry analyzers. At least 1 year of experience
handling and preparing samples derived from blood or other similar
laboratory bench work is required. Excellent verbal and written
communication skills are also required.

This is a full-time, 12 month, regular academic professional position.
Salary is commensurate with experience. The proposed starting date is July
15, 1997.

Research Specialist in Life Sciences
(Flow Cytometry)

The Biotechnology Center at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Campus has an opening for a Research Specialist in Life Sciences in the Flow
Cytometry Facility to assist with the development of new applications and
technology. Responsibilities of the position include: assisting users in
the development of fluorescence lifetime-based flow cytometry techniques;
development of new flow cytometry applications; assisting with wet workshops
and other training programs; operation of laser-based cell sorters and flow
cytometers; and data analysis using PC-based software. Minimum
qualifications are a Masters degree in Biophysics or Life Sciences with at
least 5 years of laboratory experience, 2 years experience with
fluorescence-based cell analysis techniques, and at least 1 year of flow
cytometry application related experience. Previous experience with
fluorescence lifetime or other fluorescence spectroscopy is a plus. This
position will require substantial use of PC computer systems.

This position is a regular 12 month, fifty-percent academic professional
position. Salary is commensurate with experience. There is the possibility
that this position could become full-time at a later date, depending on the
availability of funds. The proposed starting date is July 1, 1997.
