Biomedical Engineering is an interdisciplinary program that is a joint effort of the Schools of Engineering, Science, and Veterinary Medicine on the West Lafayette campus of Purdue University as well as the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology and Indiana University Schools of Medicine and Dentistry on the Indiana University - Purdue University campus at Indianapolis. The combined faculty, staff and facilities of the two campuses provide tremendous resources for students pursuing either masters (MSBmE) or doctoral (PhD) degrees in Biomedical Engineering.
Acceptance of a student into the Biomedical Engineering Program requires approval by both the Joint Biomedical Engineering Faculty Committee that administers the Program, as well as a selected School of Engineering most closely matched to the individual applicant's background and interest. For the PhD degree, these are currently the Schools of Chemical, Electrical and Computer, and Mechanical Engineering at West Lafayette; for the MSBmE they are these Schools plus the School of Engineering and Technology in Indianapolis.
When requesting an application, the student must identify a selected School of Engineering in order to obtain the appropriate forms and information. Students who do not know which School to select given their background and interests are encouraged to visit the Program's web site at http://www.ecn.purdue.edu/biomed for more detailed information and/or contact the Biomedical Engineering Program office directly for advice.
For students who select a School of Engineering on the West Lafayette campus, the application form plus fee must be mailed to:
