The CD45RA epitopes are present on all the CD45 restricted molecules in which the A exon is expressed (ABC- and AB- containing isoforms). Most B lymphocytes express CD45RA isoforms. The various CD45 isoforms are differentially expressed on T cells having distinct functions. Peripheral T cells can be divided into two largely reciprocal populations of CD45RA- CD45R0+ and CD45RA+ CD45R0- cells (CD45R0 is another isoform ot the CD45 Restricted antigen). The suppressor/inducer subpopulations of CD4+ lymphocytes coexpress CD4 antigen and CD45RA isoforms. The 2H4 antibody was characterized during the Third International Workshop on Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens.
