There is some prior literature on the matter, and while the fluorescence is
easy to see, its' magnitude has some curious dynamics that are not well
characterized. It is the basis of my favorite apoptosis assay, and
interested readers might look at Chiu et al., (1996) J. Immun. Meth.
189:157-171.
