Less sheath pressure will increase the distance.
I usually set the distance at the top of the plates using a cotton swab
by inserting it between the plates. I have not noticed an increase in
stream deflection by changing the angle of the plates.
If you cannot reslove the problem then you will need someone to check the
voltages delivered to both the plates and drops.
