DAPI counterstain for paraffin sections

I have a question for anyone having experience using DAPI as a nuclear
counterstain for paraffin sections. I use a DAPI solution from a FISH kit for
touch preparations and frozen sections, and it works very well. But the same
solution does not bind to the DNA in the paraffin sections, at least under the
conditions provided. PI does work, but the emission is virtually identical to
that generated by my signal (Ventana Red).
Thanks.
