dye lasers

Thanks to all who responded to my query for experiences with dye lasers
pumping Rho6g. I believe the consensus was to do something about the hostile
environment in the lab, suck it up and learn to align the thing.
Interestingly, all responses were from labs with vintage 1985 dye heads as
mine was. I think I was secretly hoping to hear from labs that have found
the newer air-cooled HeNe lasers just as versatile and compatable with
sorters in performing >4 color immunofluorescense and sorts. Can the 633 nm
line excite any other commercially available dyes besides APC? Is there
enough power from any of the larger air-cooled lasers when one is also
considering "high-speed" sorting? Thanks for any thoughts on the subject.
